Following the success of our 2021 outing, the Anglo-Foreign Lodges Association returned to the water this June for a spectacular afternoon of food, fellowship, and sightseeing aboard the ‘Millennium Diamond’.
Organized by AFLA Assistant Secretary, Gerry Amsden, the event proved that the Association’s spirit shines just as brightly outside the Lodge room as within it. Despite a gloomy weather forecast threatening thundery rain, the weather gods smiled upon the brethren, delivering sunny periods perfect for a river cruise.
AFLA was the dominant force on the river that day! With 68 adults and 7 children representing six of our member Lodges, we formed the largest group on board the City Cruises catamaran.
Crucially, this was a day for the extended Masonic family. Brethren brought wives, partners, children, and friends, filling our allocated seating area with laughter and conversation. As the group enjoyed lunch and drinks, the vessel glided past the capital’s iconic landmarks; from the Houses of Parliament and the London Eye to the Shard and beneath the majesty of Tower Bridge.
The event was not just about enjoyment; it also served a charitable purpose. By securing a discount for Large Groups, the organizers were able to recoup a surplus of £605.60, which has been proudly donated to the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF). This event perfectly encapsulated the AFLA ethos: bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to build friendships and support those in need.
